On the Ground in Cocha

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Our first feet are on the ground in Cocha. Ethan arrived last night and began meeting with our partners today and found significant progress in recruiting students for the course. Current applicants include:

16 Paramedics from SAR Bolivia

5 Medical Students from Universidad Mayor de San Simon

3 Police Officers

2 Nurses from Universidad Católica

2 Nurses from Mano a Mano

2 Paramedics from SAR FAB (Bolivian Air Force)

Instructors will include:

2 Bolivian physicians, including the medical director of Apoyo Aereo, Victor Hugo

1 Physician from Venezuela, our colleague Andres Gonzalez

1 Paramedic from SAR Bolivia

1 Nurse from Universidad Católica

5 EMTs from A Tu Lado

Interviews will be held on Saturday to narrow the class. Our goal is to limit this first course to 24 students.

We’ve also met a biomedical engineer and a software programmer that can help manage any the future electronic medical record. Its durability will depend on local administrators and tech support.

Tomorrow we will revise the curricula and devise a final course calendar. With so many guest lecturers, we want to give ample time for everyone to prepare.
